Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny 2020 Cancellation

In keeping with the guidelines recommended by the Federal and Provincial Governments to practice social distancing, and to do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19 regionally, the organizers have made the very difficult decision to cancel Float your Fanny Down the Ganny for 2020.

Nobody is as disappointed about this decision as our organizing committee that puts in so much to make it an event that the town and its residents are so proud of. However, we all need to do our part to keep our town, its residents and visitors safe and healthy over the coming months.

The organizers will be issuing refunds to all participants, sponsors and vendors who have registered online.

To our knowledge the race has never cancelled, yes postponed, but not cancelled. So we will have to make the 40th event in 2021 a bigger celebration, and we promise the water will still be cold.

Be safe and see you all next year!

Disappointing, to be sure, but certainly the responsible thing to do. Good call! Thank you!

Good call on this be safe out there!

Please attempt to reschedule this year!!! Dont out and out cancel it yet!!

That is so sad, must have been a gut-wrenching decision, but I’m sure you had no choice really.

Yesss. I'm so happy. Now none of those people will step on the fishies spawning beds πŸ₯°

It’s always better to be safe! Looking forward to next year

Sad to hear but great decision πŸ‘

Wow first time ever cancelled in about 40 years

I am gutted :( but understand.

Will miss it, but the right call.

Sad for the town but a good idea.

Thank you so much for your hard work.

Too bad but good call.

Understood but still sad

So Happy to read this! Best thing cancelled yet. Might as well cancel forever and stop the property damage all along the river. Really looking forward to not having to pick up everyone's garbage this year!

Wise decision!

Oh that's unfortunate- but understandable.

Guess there no need for that mending!

Too bad..but the right call..

Good Move. πŸ‘πŸ»

I hope you see some amazing crafts next year since we have some extra time to perfect them.

It has to happen. It's a hard choice but next year's FYFDTG should be doubled in spirit ;)

That's my canoe, from after my son and I got tossed out going down the rapids in 2017. I still haven't repaired it...

Any idea of moving it to a later date that would be better then canceling till next year

AhhhhhhhπŸ˜₯

Started our raft today!!!:D

It doesnt make sense to me how the Town of Port Hope put in so many resources to protect the salmon spawn, yet allows this to continue every hear during prime trout spawning season. Every year thousands of eggs and nests are disturbed and trout populations continue to decline, yet the town does nothing to change this? Makes no sense to me!

Love how Our Troops get right into it to. Sweet

snapd Northumberland WestOn April 13th, a beautiful Spring day, the 39th "Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny" was held, to the delight of many spectators and participants. This was a record for participation; 68 Crazy Crafts and 78 canoes, kayaks and paddle boards, made up the 300 plus participants. Float Your Fanny is a 10km race along the Ganaraska River, to commemorate the 1980 flood that devastated Port Hope’s downtown area. The unsinkable human spirit allows us to celebrate the 1980 flood - a natural disaster. Congratulations to Barry Adamson, his daughter, Barrileigh, Jeannie Maidens, Richard Price, the Build and Operational Team and event sponsors, who made this Float Your Fanny 2019 possible. Be sure to mark your April 2020 calendar for next year's event, which will be the 40th Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny! It was a great day for it this year! I am so glad I could attend. I recorded a most of it and am working on editing the video. I recorded the event back in 2010 as well. That day too, was beautiful and warm! Here is one of my videos from that day. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4lif2zloTA

I have to say again that the stand up paddle boarders with no helmet were a great danger to themselves and young people who will copy their behaviour. People are dying on SUPs because of no helmets. https://distressedmullet.com/2017/07/13/dissecting-the-uscg-sup-accident-numbers/

We want to thank Georgian Bay Spirit Co. for their second year as a Float Your Fanny sponsor. They were again in Fannyville this year offering samples of their Gin and Vodka Smash, and from what we hear most people stopped by to say hello to them! ... See MoreSee Less
